The Crested Screamer comes from the wetlands of Peru, Bolivia, and neighboring South America. Because its trumpeting alarm call carries for miles, farmers traditionally use it as a natural “guard dog” for livestock.
Notable Traits
Although Screamers have a goose-like build, they aren’t true waterfowl — their feet lack webbing, so instead they rely on long toes to grip vegetation while wading. In addition, sharp bony spurs on each wing give them a built-in defense. Since they form monogamous, often lifelong pair bonds, mates reinforce their connection through mutual preening and loud duet calls.
Housing & Diet
